El restaurante

Liam's mamá had a surprise for the class: she brought DONUTS!!!!

The profesora  became a camarera (waitress), and invited the students to go to her 3 Michelin star restaurante for a delicious merienda  (snack). The students ordered in Spanish:

* Quiero leche, por favor. (I want milk, please.)
* Más, por favor. Gracias.(More, please. Thank you.)

And this is the result:

Muchas gracias, mamá de Liam

Los cocineros

The Spanish class became una gran cocina (a big kitchen) with siete of the best chefs in the world!! Los cocineros prepared some of their best creations:

Manzana con palomitas de maíz (apple with popcorn)

Pizza de sandía, galleta y verdura (watermellon, cookie and vegetable pizza)

Pasta con queso y lechuga (pasta with cheese and lettuce)

Food - Comida

The next weeks we are going to learn all about COMIDA! Every day during lunchtime we use many Spanish words:

Leche: milk

Agua: water

Pan: bread

Queso: cheese

Manzana: apple

Banana: (you guessed it!)

but our favorite (teacher included...) is still CHOCOLATE (pronouncing every vowel with our mouths wide open).

We are learning how to say "Quiero más, por favor" "I want more, please".

Spanish Tortilla recipe!

This is one of the favorite foods of children in Spain. No, it is not Mexican tortilla!

If you like the taste of french fries, you'll love the Spanish tortilla. When made correctly, the Spanish tortilla is a delicious half-inch thick "cake" of fried potatoes mixed with fried eggs and onions. After cooking, the tortilla can be cut into pizza-like triangles to serve 4-6 people, or cut into squares to give a whole group a bite-sized toothpick sample.

INGREDIENTS

1 cup olive oil
four large potatos (peel and cut into small pieces about 2mm thick)
salt to taste
one large onion, thinly sliced
four large eggs.

Heat the oil in a 9-inch skillet, add potato pieces, one slice at a time so that they don't stick. Alternate layers of potato and onion. COOK slowly, medium flame. DO NOT FRY!! Turn occasionally until potatoes are tender, but NOT brown. They must be loose, not "in a cake".

Beat eggs in a large bowl with a fork. Salt to taste. Drain potatoes. Add potatoes to beaten eggs, pressing them so that eggs cover them completely. Let sit for 15 minutes. Heat 2 tbsps of the oil in large skillet. Add potato-egg mixture, spreading quickly. Lower the heat to medium-high. Shake pan to prevent sticking (crucial step!!) When potatoes start to brown, put a plate on top skillet and flip to cook other side, adding another tbsp of oil. Brown on the other side. Can flip three or four times for better cooking.

About the teacher / Sobre la profesora

I would like to introduce myself.

My name is Lilia Botelho, half of my family is Spanish, but I was born in Portugal. I have a BA in Spanish and Portuguese from the University of Porto (Portugal). I am working on a Masters of Pedagogy for Spanish teachers at the University of Alcalá de Henares (Spain).

I wanted to combine my love for the Spanish language and my love for children, and use my experience at The Learning Bee as my Masters dissertation.

I hope this experience is as fulfilling for my students as it is for me.

Me gustaría presentarme:
